Anyone
would agree that Challenger is truly one of the best Grey Herdsires in
this country today. His fleece is comparable to the best fawns and
whites, exhibiting tremendous density while maintaining great fineness
and staple length. In addition, he has excellent brightness to add to
with his elite style fleece. His bundling is very tight with excellent
separation of bundles, a high frequency crimp of 8 crimps per inch and
the curvature that most alpaca owners wish they could have in their
programs. If that is not enough Challenger has a beautiful conformation,
a very typey look and the rare "true silver grey coloring"
with no spotting. This is supported by his extremely strong color
genetics of 100% black & grey out of black & grey, and almost
90% black & grey out of browns and fawns.
In his first year of showing, as a juvenal without being cria shorn, he was very impressive (see show record below). The next year his second fleece came back much better than his first, but unfortunately Challenger suffered a health problem which caused severe fiber breakage at the skin throughout his entire body. This resulted in Challenger being unable to show in his prime. But what is a true test of any elite herdsire? It's not what he wins, it is what he produces! We are pleased to say that Challenger has not lived up to our expectations, instead he has greatly exceeded them! He has made a tremendous improvement over every female he has been bred to. Challenger is so Prepotent that we have seen some of his crias with fleeces that rival his own. When you consider that not a single one of these dams are anywhere close to Challenger's quality, yet he still produced crias of this caliber, it elevates Challenger's Breeding Value well above the rest. In short, with what Challenger is producing he has risen to be the best Grey Herdsire in this country!

Challenger's Show Results * Color Champion: Kentucky Classic '04 * Reserve Color Champion: Wisconsin Spring Fling '04 * 1st Place: Kentucky Classic '04 * 1st Place: Wisconsin Spring Fling '04 * 1st Place: MAPACA '04 *1st Place: Great Western '04 *2nd Place: All American Futurity '04 Congratulations to the Challenger Cria:Southern Select Show (Level IV) Feb 2008 WOW! What a show for Challenger. His Cria displayed a great showing at the Southern Select (Level IV) show. For three of his cria this was their first show yet they compiled: 1 Reserve Champion 2 First Place Ribbons 3 Second Place Ribbons (one of which was second to another Challenger Cria, "Rocket Man" the other was to our "Nightwatch", plus both "Nightwatch" and "Rocket Man" won Reserve Championships).
What was also very exciting is that in the, Get Of Sire, Challenger Competed against all Fawn and White Herdsires many of them Accoyos, yet he still won 2nd above some of the most influential White and Fawn Males in the US. Not bad for a Silver Grey.
